2009 National Championships

Effective in 2009, the Mallory and the Adams championships for adults and the Smythe/Bemis/Sears championships for youth and junior sailors will no longer require a YRA level elimination for any of these five championships.  Therefore MAYRA will not host such an event.  Similar to how the singled handed adult championship (O’Day) has been for some time now, the Mallory, Adams, Smythe, Bemis and Sears championships will now all be OPEN events at the Area “C” level.  The date for the Area “C” eliminations for all these events will be on Friday July 24th.  The Smythe and Bemis will be sailed out of Severn Sailing Association in Maryland (bring your own Laser and C-420) and the Sears will be sailed out of Annapolis Yacht Club (bring your own J-22).  See the US SAILING site for more information:  http://championships.ussailing.org/.

The annual Midget Championships are not a US Sailing sanctioned championship and so there is no change in the Midgets format. There will be a MAYRA level elimination event for the single handed division (Optimist) and doubled handed will be by resume. The site and date of the Optimist elimination will be at YCSIC on August 8, 2009 as part of the MAYRA Championship. Resumes for double handed boats should be sent to Mark Penny at mrkpnny@netscape.net by August 8. Two MAYRA boats from each category will advance to the finals. The finals will be at Indian Harbor YC in Greenwich, CT over the weekend of August 22-23, 2009.
